What is a Virtual Airline ?

A Virtual Airline is an Internet based fictional company set up for the enjoyment of FS users who wish to fly aircraft in a more realistic way to simulate the real world of commercial flying. You may elect to fly your entire virtual online career by yourself, or for a more rewarding & immersive experience do what many thousands of other flight simmers do and fly online under the guidance of realtime Air Traffic Controllers on either the Vatsim, IVAO or FPI Networks.

How does it work ?

Anyone who has a copy of FS2000, FS2002 or FS2004 Century Of Flight can apply for membership and become a UK Direct pilot. You need to be able to understand how to install ZIP files and how to install aircraft and scenery files.
Your first port of call is to visit one of the UKD Hubs and select a flight. Note all the relevant information; time of flight, aircraft used and most importantly the flightplan. Fly!
When you have completed your flight you file your Pilot Report (PIREP) by visiting the online pirep form and filling in the required details. Your flight record is then entered into the database and your statistics are automatically updated on the Pilots Roster page. We rely on pilots being honest when submitting pireps. Any pilot suspected of falsifying pireps will be investigated. If found guilty they will be suspended for a period to be determined by the management. ALL Pilots will be expected to fly at least 1 flight every three months. Any pilot who does not not contact us within a six month period will be removed from the pilots roster.

What sort of Operations do we fly ?

UK Direct Started life in May 1998 with just 2 BAC 1-11 aircraft flying scheduled services, and we now have branched into several new areas. UK Sun has been setup to offer charter and IT flights to the Mediterranean and global holiday destinations. UK World Cargo has a growing fleet and a selection of scheduled and charter flights to some interesting and challenging areas of the world. Our main Schedule division has several hubs including the main UK internal hubs at Bournemouth, Leeds and Southend. The 'Eurolink' hub at London Stansted is our busiest, the Scottish 'Thistle' hub at Edinburgh also serves as the base for our Scottish Regional service, and a small hub at Jersey Airport serves the Channel Islands and Northern France. Southampton Airport is the 'Channel Hopper' service mainland base.
UK Direct's HQ is at Bournemouth International Airport. Its Maintenance and Storage Airport is at Exeter and it's initial pilot training centre is at Southampton Airport. We don't run a remote hub system as we prefer to maintain a global feel to the airline. UK Direct offer transAtlantic services to the US and other long haul destinations from our Gatwick hub. And finally, Pacific Direct Airways, our division jetting us off to those exotic locations !

The Fleet

The UK Direct Fleet is growing all the time in line with our steady expansion plans. Our aircraft are pooled from the many excellent freeware offerings and are thoroughly flight tested before being given a UKD coat of paint.
We also welcome pilots who choose to fly the latest, and increasingly realisic, commercial add-ons. The aircraft type must of course already be part of the UKD fleet. 'Special' liveries may be made available.

The Pilots

UK Direct Airways operate a strict 100 maximum pilots. We feel that by keeping our numbers small we can retain our 'homely' atmosphere and where members aren't strangers to each other. Many of our pilots have real life experience whilst others are comparitive novices to the 'Flying' world. It makes no difference. If you are keen & enthusiastic we will welcome you.

How do I apply ?

Firstly, double check we have a vacancy by checking the statistics on our home page. No point applying for a job if there's no job available ;-) If there is a vacancy then please visit our Pilot Application page.
